The embroidery, particularly when done for ornamental reasons, has frequently been disregarded as a trivial form of feminine household art, an interpretation that undermines the expertise and ingenuity required to create embroidered masterpieces. However, an examination of past embroidery pieces illustrates that it has always transcended being a simple decorative art. Aside from eliciting a personal link to history, an embroidered piece can disclose details about social standing, politics, identity, community, and even the artist's own personal encounters.

During our participatory embroidery session at MG&G,we came together for a collective session to leave a trace of what stayed with us from Sweaty Dwellings, which led to many interesting conversations and reflections.
